Artist Kathrin Burleson

Welcome to The Scoop, your weekly insider's guide to all things dog. Every week, we will share stuff we like, whether it's a cool product or a designer we want to introduce or a new store opening. Just random things we dig and hope you dig, too!

According to artist Kathrin Burleson, an icon is a window to another reality; a door to the divine. And, what could be more divine than an icon of your dog? Obviously, Burleson's work is influenced by religious iconography, but the whimsy in each piece is influenced by our four-legged friends.

Using a traditional, iconic approach, her paintings are created on a wood pane and gilded with 23 carat gold. She combines age-old techniques with nontraditional imagery (um, dogs), presenting a light-hearted approach to iconography that she says explores not only the mystery of creation, but also the humor in life. All I know is I want one!
